You are the first responder to a plumbing emergency
What to Do Before We Arrive.
Simple steps that may help reduce damage.
- If a water fixture is actively leaking, close the shutoff valve if you can do so safely.
- If the leak is major and you cannot isolate it, turn off the main water shutoff to the home or business.
- If a toilet is overflowing, stop using the fixture and turn off the valve behind the toilet if accessible.
- If your grinder pump alarm is going off, reduce water use immediately and avoid running showers, laundry, dishwashers, or heavy plumbing fixtures.
- If you suspect a gas leak, leave the area and call the gas utility or emergency services before calling for repair.
- Do not open sewer cleanouts, grinder pump basins, gas piping, or electrical panels unless you are qualified to do so.

Emergency Plumbing FAQ
Do you provide 24/7 emergency plumbing in Pensacola?
Yes. S.E. Tradesmen Plumbing & Gas provides 24/7 emergency plumbing service for urgent plumbing issues throughout Pensacola and surrounding Gulf Coast communities.
What should I do if I have a burst pipe?
Turn off the closest shutoff valve if possible. If you cannot isolate the leak, turn off the main water supply to the home or business and call for emergency plumbing service.
What should I do if my sewer is backing up?
Stop using water and plumbing fixtures immediately. Avoid flushing toilets, running showers, doing laundry, or using sinks until the sewer line is inspected.
Do you charge by the hour?
We use menu pricing. This means we give you the price of the services before we start. For emergency calls, you pay the $250 to dispatch, then the plumber will assess the situation and give you a price before any work is done.
Why do you charge $250?
We operate on a weekly on-call rotation, meaning one plumber is always standing by to respond to emergency plumbing calls after hours. That often requires our plumbers to wake up in the middle of the night or leave family events, weekends, and personal obligations to respond quickly when customers truly need help.
When we first started the company, we did not charge an after-hours emergency fee. Unfortunately, we repeatedly experienced situations where customers would request emergency service late at night or on weekends, only to cancel after a plumber had already been dispatched and was en route.
To address this, we implemented an emergency service fee. The purpose of this fee is to help distinguish true plumbing emergencies from issues that can reasonably wait until normal business hours. It also helps reduce unnecessary dispatches and ensures our on-call plumbers are available for customers who genuinely need immediate assistance.
What do you do with the $250?
Of that emergency fee, $200 goes directly to the plumber who responds to the call, while the remaining amount helps offset the actual cost of operating after hours.
Our journeymen earn $33.50 per hour, which becomes $50.25 per hour at overtime rates. In addition, we contribute $13.67 per hour toward their health insurance and retirement benefits. That brings the direct labor cost to $63.92 per hour from the moment a plumber takes the call until they return home.
After factoring in employer taxes, workers’ compensation, fuel, vehicle expenses, and commercial auto insurance, our actual operating cost increases to approximately $83.68 per hour. Including the plumber’s emergency bonus, the average after-hours emergency call takes about two hours and costs the company approximately $367.36 to perform.
What areas do you serve for emergency plumbing?
We serve Pensacola, Escambia County, Santa Rosa County, and nearby Gulf Coast communities.
Can I cancel my emergency call?
We will issue a full refund only if the plumber has not been dispatched. If he has, we are obligated to pay the plumber his $200 plus his hourly pay. We will issue you a partial (50%) refund, and eat the loss.
How long does it take for you to respond to an emergency?
We maintain a strict 30-minute response window for our on-call plumbers. In some situations, the plumber may miss the initial call due to sleeping, driving, or already responding to another emergency. If no call activity is seen within 30 minutes, the Service Manager immediately follows up to ensure the customer is contacted and service is coordinated.
While we typically provide customers with up to a 4-hour arrival window for emergency calls, our goal is always to respond as quickly as possible, ideally within the first hour whenever circumstances allow.
